Storm Mollison

Storm Mollison steps up to the plate for the 217th instalment of our mix series.

Delivering an hour of groove-laden house, this is a sneak peak into the musical mind of this fast-riser, featuring tracks from Dan Cuddles, Ossie and DJ Haus alongside Storm's own productions. If you haven't already been introduced, this is the perfect chance to get acquainted with the London-born, Florida-raised artist, ahead of what's sure to be a bumper 2024.

We did some quickfire questions with Storm to accompany the mix, touching on her transatlantic influences, plans for the year and much more..

Your 2023 was huge! Becoming a Rinse resident, releasing loads of new music on the likes of Hot Haus Records and playing a lot of amazing events. What was the highlight for you?

Ah 2023 was a year of a lot of firsts. First EP, first Glastonbury, first radio residency. Im thankful that collectively the year was made up of various firsts and highlights

And what’s in store for 2024?

Some really exciting releases on the horizon

We recently saw you experimenting with live drums for ‘U Got The Flava’, enlisting Harry Ling to help you out. Who else would you love to collaborate with in the studio?

Shout out to Harry Ling! Honestly collaborating with my mates will always be my favourite type of collaboration. Missy Elliot has always been my dream collab though

One tip you’d give to any producer/DJ who’s just getting started?

Just follow your heart. Make/play what feels right and by no means get discouraged. Enjoy the process, thats the fun bit!

If you could travel back in time, what event would you go to?

Oh, Paradise Garage. Theres a Larry Levan mix from a set there in '85 on YouTube and it just makes me wish I were there.

How has your time in America affected your musical tastes?

I was your quintessential 2000's tween. If it was in the top 40, or on rotation on MTV then I knew it word for word. I feel like at that time R'n'B and Hip Hop really dominated that space and artists like Britney Spears were being produced by Pharrell or Nelly Furtado and Timbaland. I mean 2000's pop in America is really something to be studied. Definitely a great time of unexpected collaborations. Naturally this has led me to play/make on the more garage, hip-house, breakbeat side of electronic music

One artist to keep an eye out for this year?

Ah there's no way I could narrow it down to just one: Tomike, Crybaby, Briskin, Essosa, Geo Jordan. I could keep going, there really is a lot of great stuff being made right now

Which gig are you most looking forward to this summer?

The one where there is lots of dancing happy feet :)
