RREYKASOUND

Dive into the latest edition of our LWE Mix series from RREYKASOUND, the dynamic duo of Rebecca Gough and Redfreya.

Bringing you an hour and a half of powerful melodic house and techno, the mix is a mesmerising fusion of ethereal melodies and pulsating basslines.

Taken from their opening set from Chris Avantgarde's sold-out Village Underground show, it perfectly exemplifies their singular sound, with the venue's energy present throughout. Listen up to see why these two are in heavy demand right now.

If you could play together at any club or venue where would you play?

Definitely an Ibiza venue because we spent a really inspiring 2 weeks together there last summer. Probably either Cova Santa/DC10 Garden because we love playing in the open air, or Pacha ❤️

Tell us a bit about when this set was recorded

It was recorded at Village Underground, opening the night for Chris Avantgarde's extended set which was super sold out, it got busy quite early and we were very fortunate to play to a packed out venue for half the set! Magical electric energy all night long at this party, it's such a unique venue with so many memories for us both.

Who is someone in the scene you look up to or respect?

It's a difficult question because we could choose many, and we each have individual differences too. But for the duo project, it's probably got to be John Digweed, as we've opened for him twice and he's just the best; we really respect his dedication to diverse music and ofc all the work he's done over the years, but yet he remains the loveliest most down to earth guys. His support meant a lot to us.

Individually - for Rebecca, Matthew Johnson, for Freya, Frankey & Sandrino.

Who has the best crowds in the UK?

FOLD/unfold, or Little Portland Street. We usually prefer intimate parties.

What has been your biggest achievement so far?

Recently we flew to Copenhagen to open for a really special showcase supporting BOOKA SHADE Live (20 years tour), it was big for us as our first international show and ofc the lineup. But also we were invited to record a Transitions Radio Podcast by John Digweed, this was a v big honour for us.

How do you relax after a big weekend?

Rebecca: A lot of sleep & stretching, self care & good eating

Freya: Time in nature/sunlight, staying offline/away from digital world, time with animals, my loved ones, meditation, yoga and the sauna (i go a few times per week, i'm totally addicted).

If you could describe your sound as a smell what smell would it be?

It would have a few different notes like a perfume because we're both quite multifaceted people - maybe slightly spiced notes of vanilla/cinnamon, also a zesty/bitter citrus element, and darker musky notes :) hopefully something intoxicating. We love contrasts in all aesthetic palettes, music and otherwise.

How do you stay grounded?

Rebecca: Always staying in touch with my feelings, allowing myself to feel them deeply. I focus on deeper connection with others rather than just surface level.

Freya: I do a lot of meditation/mindfulness and gratitude practices, I have for 10+ years so it's a big part of my routine and this helps. Once again I think being in nature is very grounding, it slows you down and makes you realise all your problems and achievements are quite small and insignificant in the grand scheme. Also I like to remind myself how much I've learned/grown and how far I've come since day 1, I think we both do this.

The best club night you’ve been to recently?

Being honest, we don't go 'out' that much, because we're very often working, either gigging or in the studio. The best club night we went to together, if you stretch the definition of 'recently' a little, was at a club called Underground in central Ibiza - it's under 20 euros on the door, very laid back and in an old villa with a top quality sound system, only about 200 cap dancefloor. We saw Hamish + Toby play vinyl all night long here, and we spent a few moments dancing with Nina Kraviz in the crowd (true story!)

Three artists, from any genre or period, who inspire your musical output?

Rebecca: Ricardo Villalobos, Alican & Murat Uncuoglu, Kraftwerk.

Freya: ROTHKO (the painter), Nicolas Jaar, Frankey & Sandrino

How long could you DJ for, if you really put your mind to it?

Probably 24 hours 😂
