LWE Mix 216: Mha Iri

We are excited to welcome rising Scottish talent Mha Iri to the LWE Mix Series, bringing an hour of high-octane techno with her for the occasion.

Fresh from releases on Drumcode and gigs around the world, Mha Iri is really carving out her own lane with her presence behind the decks and in the studio.

She joins us at DRUMSHEDS on 9th March, as Junction 2 and Drumcode join forces for a 10.5 hour celebration of dance music in all it's forms. Stick this mix on to get you ready for this very special occasion.

Listen to the mix here. Tickets for Drumcode X Junction 2 can be found here.

We also asked the in-demand DJ a few quickfire questions about her beginnings in the scene, what it's like to play for Drumcode, producers to keep your eye on and much more, so read on to delve into the world of Mha Iri.

1. Drumcode has played host to your EP ‘The Unexpected’, and you’ve played numerous events for them around the world - how does it feel to be a part of their biggest ever UK show?

It feels great and it's definitely something I dreamed about a few years ago, so it's amazing to see those dreams become a reality.

2. You were born in Scotland, then moved to Australia, before landing back in the UK. Is there a way in which these different locations have impacted your sound and taste?

I wouldn't say so, no. I've always enjoyed digging and playing a sound I resonate with regardless of where I am located.

3. Other than techno, are there other styles of music that you’re interested in exploring?

I love most styles of music and I do have a release coming out in next few months that has a bit more of a commercial vibe and has my singing vocals in it. I also enjoy making melodic, slower music in my spare time which is just for personal enjoyment and not for releasing.

4. If you could travel back in time, what event are you going to?

I would love to have been able to attend Woodstock.

5. Scotland’s best club?

Sub Club in Glasgow is my fave.

6. One tune you’re guaranteed to play at the Drumcode event?

My unreleased track 'Bombay'.

7. One up-and-coming artist we should all have our eyes on?

Yoze is a young, super talented artist.

8. Your favourite London gig experience?

I had an awesome time playing in London before Enrico Sanguiliano. The vibe was amazing and I just love London crowds.

9. Most people you’ve played in front of before?

Between 6k and 10k, I have no idea of the specifics as I'm terrible with guessing numbers in crowds

10. The ultimate closing tune?

I love closing with Mario Ochoa - Dreaming of Fire. It;s just such an emotional and beautiful track but still has amazing drive. It's one of my favourites.
