LWE Mix 230: Charlie Iapicone
We sat down with Charlie to find out more about life behind the scenes as a touring DJ, his inspirations and some surprises along the way:
Who or what inspires you musically?
One of my biggest sources of musical inspiration is the sea. There’s something about its endless movement, the way it changes yet remains constant, that deeply influences my creativity. The rhythm of the waves, the openness, and the energy of the ocean all find their way into my sound.
What’s your process for finding new music?
I’m constantly on the lookout for fresh talent and new sounds. I listen to everything related to house music, from underground artists to established producers, always searching for innovation and originality. Whether it’s through digging into online platforms, attending events, or just connecting with other artists, I’m always absorbing new influences.
What is one piece of advice you would give to your younger self?
I would tell my younger self to always follow your dreams, no matter the circumstances. There will always be obstacles, doubts, and challenges, but staying true to your passion and vision is what leads to success. Every setback is just part of the journey.
What is your dream venue to play at?
My dream venue is Space Miami. It has an incredible history and energy, and the connection between the music, the crowd, and the atmosphere is something truly special. Playing there would be a huge milestone.
What is the biggest change you’ve seen in the industry?
The music scene has evolved in so many ways, but one of the biggest changes is how much easier it is now for artists to express themselves and reach an audience. With social media, streaming platforms, and digital tools, there’s more opportunity than ever to break through—if you have something unique to offer.
If you could play at any festival or club in the world, where would it be?
There are so many iconic places I’d love to play, but **Boiler Room, Ushuaïa, and Miami Music Week are at the top of my list. Each of them has a unique vibe—Boiler Room is all about raw energy and intimate crowd connection, Ushuaïa represents the peak of Ibiza’s party culture, and Miami Music Week is a melting pot of global electronic music talent.
What never leaves your bag while you’re traveling and playing?
Two things I always carry with me: my headphones and my laptop. No matter where I am, I like to stay creative, whether it’s working on new tracks, refining ideas, or just immersing myself in music. Being able to produce on the go keeps the inspiration flowing.
What was the first record you ever bought, and does it still influence your music today?
The first record I ever bought was “From Disco to Disco” by Whirlpool Productions. It was one of those tracks that instantly made an impact on me, and even today, I can hear its influence in my music. That fusion of groove, rhythm, and an infectious bassline is something I always try to incorporate into my own sound.
