LWE Mix 232: Reformist
LWE Mix 232: Reformist
We caught up with Reformist ahead of his LWE debut to talk through his inspirations, music and more. Check it out below:
Who continues to inspire you musically?
To be honest, I don’t listen to too much of what’s “big” or “trendy” in the underground scene—because I think that’s when you start to become a musical sheep. I like to keep my sound true to myself. I listen to a lot of alternative music, early ‘80s new wave, disco/funk, and a lot of trip-hop. There’s so much inspiration to draw from those genres.
What’s your last memory of partying in London?
The best party I’ve been to recently was seeing Rene Wise at FOLD. That guy has to be God reincarnated into a DJ—the journey, the textures, the atmosphere… he’s one of the best artists I’ve seen play in a long time.
What’s one thing that never leaves your bag when you’re travelling/playing?
A vape. God, I really need to stop.
If you could ask for anything on your rider, what would it be?
To be fair, I’m actually pretty boring when it comes to riders. I’m a simple man—vodka lime soda will do me just fine.
What are you most excited for this summer?
I’ve just secured a residency with an amazing crew in my hometown, Brighton. It’s called Search Party and it’s headed by @harlow.wav. Last weekend, I played my first show with them, warming up for Faster Horses. That was a really special moment for me, as Patterns was the first club I ever went to years ago, and it’s been my go-to for all the best underground acts ever since. I even named one of my recent tracks after it, lol. So yeah, I’ve got a few shows lined up with them this summer, and I’m buzzing for it.
If you could go B2B with any DJ, who and where would it be?
Blimey—if we’re talking big dogs, definitely DJ Swisherman, DAX J, Chlar, or even Daria. Total dream scenarios (that I hope one day come true). But there are some really cool up-and-coming DJs too, especially from Ireland and France, that I’d love to mix with: Sean Cunningham, Lunaks, Dylan Fogarty, Ponky... the list goes on.
Your no-skip album?
Can’t lie—there are a few:
Heaven 17 – Penthouse and Pavement
Depeche Mode – Violator
Massive Attack – Blue Lines
